Inaugural Renee Hall-Carter Scholarship Awarded

The Chaen Adult Education Center is celebrated National Nurses Week by awarding scholarships to qualified students. The first Renee Hall Carter Memorial Scholarship was granted. This scholarship is for a female non-traditional nursing student over the age of twenty-six.

Darla Carter created the scholarship in memory of her mother, who passed away at thirty-seven years old but always aspired to be a nurse. Applicants wrote essays about why they wanted to pursue a nursing career.

“It’s been almost twenty years in the making since I became a nurse. My biological mother always wanted to be a nurse, but unfortunately, due to some discriminatory practices, it never happened for her. I established this scholarship in her memory,” said Darla.

This year’s recipient is Alaya Carter. The scholarship can assist with school expenses, food, gas, and even child care costs.
